What leash is best for a dog?

Choosing a leash is personal. Consider length, material, hardware, and handheld vs. hands-free styles. Match your gear to the activity: use a traffic handle for control in crowds or a bungee leash for extra room while running with your dog.

Is there a different type of leash to use if my dog pulls?

While a slip lead can offer temporary discouragement for pullers, the right leash-and-harness system is key. Pair your lead with a front-clip harness to redirect momentum, or use a shorter leash with a traffic handle for closer control.

Should dogs be on leash?

Leash laws vary by location. Most cities require a leash (often 6ft max) within city limits, while trail rules change by region or season. Always check local regulations and carry a leash even in off-leash areas to ensure safety and compliance.

Can I use a Ruffwear leash for running?

Yes! For running, look for a leash with a bungee core to absorb shock or a waist-worn option for a hands-free stride. This prevents jarring movements for both you and your dog, making high-output activities smoother and more comfortable.

What is the benefit of a hands-free dog leash?

Hands-free leashes allow for a natural arm swing while hiking or running and keep your hands free for treats or training. Many of our leashes feature adjustable handles that can be handheld or worn around the waist for total versatility.
